FAQ

You don't advise a first-timer to go to Abadiânia alone, right?

No, I don't. I feel that it is too much pressure on the Casa for people who don't speak Portuguese to be turning up totally unprepared happily requesting the energy of all the Casa volunteers in order to get their needs met. I don't think this kind of behavior is part of any healing process I have ever heard of. I think healing begins with the perception that every being on the planet deserves respect and care. Not only those who are ill and needy. And, the energy that is lost on needless repetitive instructions in sign language would be much better put to use in the actual healing process. I am personally surprised that the Casa still allows non-Portuguese speakers to come their first trip alone. THIS IS MY OPINION and it would not have any support at the Casa, to my knowledge.

Also, those who don't know the language, Brazil, the culture and the geographical area have a huge learning curve to conquer. Two weeks is not enough time to get that down. With a guide, you just flow through the process and concentrate on your healing. Without a guide you wonder what is going on all the time, have to trust you are getting the correct translation and your doubts constantly frustrate you. This creates an energy of fear and anger which permeates everywhere from the Casa to your hotel room and all your relationships. You risk the success of your pilgrimage. It's like throwing all that time into the garbage can. In Brazil, we say, "economia na base de porcaria", which means, "trying to save money based on sloppy thinking".

If you want someone to give you more attention and translate all day, someone to handle any problems that come up, to help you understand and enjoy more fully the culture you are entering, someone to explain things that you might think of along the way, someone whose answers are accurate and based on strict Casa guidelines, someone to get you where you need to be when you need to be there, someone to take you home after you've been operated on, bring you food while you are having to stay in bed, bug you about following everything that the Entities have told you directly or that has been told to the guides in order to maximize your treatment's success, then, you will have to contract a bi-lingual guide.

If it is your first time to Brazil and the Casa, it can be a very frustrating experience unless you are excellent at giving it all up to Spirit and just letting it happen.

Like anything, you get out of something what you put into it. Either total surrender or total surrender with a guide.

Some people who have gone down for two weeks without help have had to stay three or come back for another trip just to feel they got it right.

What about taking trips after you get to Abadiania when the Casas is closed?

This happens only with unexperienced guides. Mid-trip excursions are all but forbidden by the Casa. Traveling out of the Casa healing vortex during the two-week recommended stay, is considered detrimental to the healing experience. People who have had surgery (visible or invisible, consciously or unconsciously) are open and susceptible to any energy in their environment.

Some people come to Abadiânia ill-prepared for periods with nothing to do. When they get bored and restless, they start making their healing pilgrimage into a vacation. They want to be entertained. This leaves them wide open to so many difficulties snd complications on an energetic level; risking everything that has been done for them to help them heal.

Avoid any type of "out of healing vortex" activity while in Abadiânia. All side trips should be made before getting to Abadiânia. Even strolls across the highway are dangerous energetically. Limit your walking and activities to the area immediately around the Casa and to the same side of the highway.

A guide 'should' speak Portuguese for the pilgrim's best interest?

Not all guides speak Portuguese and they are excellent guides. They have strong relationships with the Casa translators and totally surrender to the accuracy of their translations. Which, is the only way you can communicate with Entities for the most part. There are only a handful of Guides who can translate the words of the Entities. Each Entity speaks with a different voice, style, accent, vocabulary, slang, dated slang, etc. It takes years for people to hear all these differences and understand what messages are really being passed on.

The main reason for having a Portuguese-speaking guide is for all the rest of the time you are in Abadiânia and the rest of Brazil included in your package. There are endless situations where a native speaker can avoid confusion, help with buying, increase your understanding of interesting situations which are always popping up, help you understand the culture which produced a place like the Casa de Dom Inácio. There is an entire world going on around you and it is constantly addressing you. You can choose to ignore it and lose its precious lessons or you can be prepared to include that in your healing process. Communicating with angels is quite and beautiful experience.

Are you with your group step by step all through the journey?

I am with the people in my groups who chose to be together from the early morning till after dinner.. every inch of the way. I reach out to the others who are more independent as often as possible each day and make sure they have everything they need.

Can you send me brochures for the town of Abadiânia please, and also for the items available in the gift shop?

There are no brochures for either. Abadiânia is just a stop along a big highway and the Casa is a tiny corner on the other side of the road.

The Bookstore has books and tapes, crucifixes, quartz and amethyst crystals, sacred water, posters and tee shirts. There's more, for sure, but I don't remember right now.

Is there a brochure for the Pousadas?

No brochures exist as far as I know. www.friendofthecasa.org has addresses and phone numbers. Maybe someone has pictures on their website.

Is the Holy Water the same as Holy Water sanctioned by the Blessed Virgin Mary, such as Lourdes and the Shrine of Guadeloupe in Mexico City?

The bottled mineral water comes from the region immediately surrounding Abadiânia and is blessed by the Entities everyday.

I see there are thunderstorms there now. How is the weather there in November?

November is a transitional period (Spring). The weather is unstable in spring and fall. However, I have been in November and it is still very pleasant and wonderful. I took some vacation time near Abadiânia this last year in November and had a ball.

How many people do you prefer in your groups? Is there a minimum and a maximum?

Theoretically, there is a minimum of five. I can guide up to 10 people on my own. After that I hire another guide to help me for up to 20 people.

What about medical emergencies?

I have handled many medical emergencies as a guide and have a healthy list of emergency measures to follow when serious crises present themselves.

What are the electric sockets like in Abadiânia?

The electric sockets here vary, but, most are adaptable for either round pins or the flat pins (like in the states). What is more important here is that there doesn't seem to be a ground wire. So, there usually isn't a hole for the ground pin nor a wide entrance for the wider flat pin for grounding. We either file down the wide flat pin or try to force it in. Or, we cut off the round ground pin. Or, we buy a skinny adapter here and hang the round ground in the air. There are lots of tricks for adapting.

Your best bet would be a plug with two round pins or two flat pins the same width.

What about the distant healing process?

We take pictures of individuals who request to the Entities and express their concerns. We, then, fill the herbal prescriptions (if prescribed) and mail them off to the individual with any other instructions the Entities may have related.

For each person the following is necessary:

1) A recent Photo
2) Full name
3) Present mailing address and phone number
4) Age and date of birth
5) A clear and specific statement by each individual of what help is wanted from the Entities.
6) US$60 for the herbs, mailing, incidentals, etc.

Each individual must be conscious of the fact that help is being sought and that, most likely, herbs will be prescribed. Each individual must agree to take the herbs, refrain from arousing sexual energies in any way, refrain from using any intoxicating substances and spicy foods for forty days or until they have finished taking the herbs.

There is also a possibility that the entity will request the person come to Abadiânia for treatment. Of course, the decision to come or not is totally up to the individual.

People with serious illnesses are encouraged to go through this process before making the trip down to Brazil. Often, the trip can be avoided and health conditions can be treated by distant healing.

Remember, all individuals must continue taking any medication, which have been prescribed by their health professionals and caretakers prior to this consultation. The herbs are to be taken in conjunction with regular medication.

Do you recommend Distant Healing?

People want to know if we can recommend distant healing, crystal baths, taking herbs, trips to the waterfall and even visits to see John of God. This is tricky. Some guides have had important healing experiences in Abadiânia and should relate their personal experiences. But, my feeling is that guides are not to recommend anything. A guide’s job is to deliver people to the Casa of Dom Inácio in a safe, easy manner, support them during their stay and help them understand and follow the directives of the Entities. Guides, in my opinion, should not encourage, convince or, in any other way, seek to persuade people about coming to visit John of God. I believe everyone who seeks information about this pilgrimage is having a conversation with God and guides should do their best not to interrupt. Listen to your heart about distant healing and other decisions around coming to visit John of God and the Entities at the Casa de Dom Inácio in Abadiânia, Brazil. You are the only one who can know what you need in order to heal.

Any advice for healers visiting the Casa?

When an outside medium or healer comes for the first time, it most supportive to be as quiet about your gifts as you can. The Entities will recognize you and may say something to you or they may ignore you (especially if you are in a super ego-based space).

At the Casa, it is imperative not to be counseling others or doing any activities which might be construed as interfering or showing off.

The regular Casa members are very protective of what goes on there. There are many, many considerations which take time for new-comers to perceive. The Casa has been around for so many years, everything imaginable has happened before. These people have lived through and suffered from the mistakes of innumerous newcomers before you.

Of course, the Entities are happy to see us there. They need our light to treat those in need.

I find the most positive stance there is full surrender to the work in progress. Lots of silence. Lots of modeling for those who are so confused about how they lose and waste energy. And, lots of learning through observation.

The Casa is such a blessing for all of us on so many levels.

Many times the Entities will put us flat on our backs by operating on us the first day. This is a blessing for everyone. First, because we are not afraid and we know the importance of following instructions (surrender). This provides a beautiful role modeling experience for those around us.

I see mediums give readings and herding groups together for self-adulation. But, they are missing a wonderful opportunity to be anonymous.

The work of João de Deus and the Casa de Dom Inácio is a beautiful thing. People must focus to benefit fully from the experience. It is irresponsible to distract them for any reason.

Many times we think what is being told to someone there is strange or controversial. But, like I said, it takes time to perceive the reasons for what is said or done.

Newcomers should avoid giving advise to others as their answers may conflict with the work at hand.

It is so much fun just loving all those around you secretly and openly, meeting your brothers and sister from all over the planet, and, feeling your light connected to so much other light... stretched and nourished by giving.

You will have a blast!
