Choosing Courage, Truth and Beauty as a Reaction to Illness, Discomfort and Depression

There is an accelerated evolutionary process occurring everywhere on the planet, right now, which is stimulating a vast insistent spiritual awakening. A number of factors (including global atmospheric changes, the accelerated appearance of new life-threatening epidemic-type diseases and a rampant increase in social and environmental crises) are stimulating an increased concern for the well being of self/others and the environment. This awakening of inner spiritual consciousness and the simultaneous concern for planetary health is rapidly gaining momentum as a transforming force.

A life of courage, truth and beauty makes anyone feel fulfilled and happy. When we perceive that life is all about expanding awareness and expressing the joy that comes from this process, a desire to celebrate that joy we experience in growing begins to burn within. We begin to emit a vibration and glow, which mingle with the energy of all those around us with ever-growing intensity. Everything in our environment begins to change.

We have always shined/vibrated who we are and our shining/vibrating has always emanated in all directions around us. As knowledge and understanding in harmony with Universal truth and love begin to radiate more and more powerfully from us, they engulf and influence our families, friends, acquaintances and casual passers-by.

In an age when the world seems lost in material concerns, sucked in to consumer conformity philosophies, it is becoming harder and harder to distinguish who we really are. AND, this is wonderful because it is making us uncomfortable and ill.

Illness, discomfort and depression are gifts.

As the planet's population reaches more increased levels of global discomfort, people who feel overwhelmingly dissatisfied or ill start searching out new truth, positive direction and environmental solutions, thereby, illuminating the path to personal and planetary health.

The greatest part of our personal power is accessed on vibrational levels. Everything we experience and feel in our personal consciousness is reflected and activated on these invisible vibrational levels, which surround our physical bodies. Our vibrational connection to the Universe is direct and any imbalance at these levels is the root cause of all “dis-ease”.

Years ago Gary was told he would die within six months. It was the luckiest thing that ever happened to him. "I thank God everyday for the Harvard, Magna Cum Laude graduate MD that told me that. Because, all at once. I just started doing what made me the happiest." At that time, that meant traveling.

Gary, originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, quickly marched off to Guatemala with US$400 in his pocket and settled at Lago Atitlan where he had been told that one could live for a year on US$1000. Those were the days.

He soon discovered there were twelve villages around the lake and instinctively decided to live as far away as possible from foreigners like himself in order to avoid inflated prices and familiar thought patterns. After borrowing a canoe and rowing 5 days visiting the twelve villages around the lake, he set up house in a village called Santiago Atitlan where his new landlord, a native Guatemalan of Mayan decent, would charge him only $5 a month for rent (and then only for the first two months, as it turned out).

Gary already knew he wasn't going to die. ("At these rates I wouldn't have time to spend my US$400 before kicking off!") To make this long story short, Gary is still here on the planet and feeling great 36 years later.

"My luck was I saw the signs (having been clobbered on the head) and I changed." At least that's how he has looked at his healing all these years since. Gary's basic philosophy about healing has this experience at its core. When one gets ill, one needs to change something. Later, he learned the complement to this thought, which is: if one wants to change, one has to change.

"That's right, folks, you can't just know you have to change and wish you could. You really have to change."

We could tell you more about Gary's path and thoughts about health right now, but he prefers to trade stories 'round a campfire when you join him on one of his pilgrimage-like Spiritual Retreats looking for change. But, first you have to be reading the signs in your life, wanting to heal, wanting to change, searching for a place to go and needing a guide. That's Gary.

You have to make the journey. That's part of changing, part of healing. Gary feels his job is to facilitate the journey that will help you understand and face the changes you need to make in order to heal yourself and stay on this planet [till you're comfortable about leaving, that is (something we all have to do)].

What can Gary do for you?
Gary has lived ion Brazil permanently for the last 23 years. He is fluent in Portuguese and an avid researcher of Brazilian and Indigenous Brazilian culture. He will meet you at the airport in Brasilia, facilitate in the logistical aspects of your journey, translate the entire trip and fill your experience with love, laughter, cultural information and spiritual commentary.

Gary helps people who are not used to traveling in rural areas of foreign countries, who are not used to staying in small rustic accommodations, who don't speak the native language, who have difficulties in expanding their experience and beliefs and who have trouble staying focused. He does this with tons of patience, lots of smiles, occasional gentle nudges and bountiful compassion.

His main job, as Gary see it, is to remind people to focus on the reasons they are making a Spiritual Retreat. Of course, each visitor has his or her own reasons for making a spiritual journey, leaving their own comfortable homes and coming to the middle of nowhere where probably no one they know has ever been.

Gary's presence is a constant reminder to his fellow travelers that the journey is about change and about surrender; it is about wanting to stay on the planet bad enough to be willing to look at what was never before considered a serious option nor even a possible figment of reality.

The journey is about following the instructions of healers they encounter and listening to the messages of the Earth and the Heavens that surround them.

Gary can hold you when you let yourself be frightened / sad / angry / etc., teach you things you have forgotten about loving yourself and about loving others and help you re-enter "the garden" and find your place in the puzzle of things. Gary will take you to sacred places, walk you into the countryside, help you see when Spirit is talking to you and encouraging you to surrender and show you how you can make everywhere you are a sacred place.

His presence can help you feel more at home more quickly by translating what's going on around you and telling you what you're eating. Gary can try to keep you alert to the present and what you are being told by your experiences. He will help you change money, go to town, catch cabs and learn to participate in the nurturing flow of health-giving energy when the Universe offers you the chance.

For the past two years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to visit John Of God at the CASA DE DOM INACIO in Abadiânia - Goias - Brazil. I do not speak even one word of the Portuguese language and felt so completely confused and lost the first year.

I can not say enough about the value, efficiency, kind, loving, giving and caring person in Gary Walker. Both years, he met us at the airport personally in Brasilia with warm hugs sensing our tiredness and offering to take care of any of our immediate needs. Wow! We all thought we had died and gone right straight to heaven.

After taking us to the hotel and dinner that night, Gary met us at breakfast and got us moving so we world have time to see all the spiritual sights he had lined up on a short tour before a fabulous relaxed lunch.

Gary provided our transportation from Brasilia to Abadiânia in a very comfortable and well maintained bus.

In Abadiânia, we stayed in what seemed to be the most lovely and comfortable pousada on the main strip so very close to the Casa. This became our home where we slept, visited and ate all of our meals for two weeks time. There are other pousada's in Abadiânia, however, I feel that the one we stayed at was the absolute best in the City.

This man I speak of essentially took care of not only translation for everyone in the group (so we could go in front of John Of God at the CASA with complete confidence) but he was always checking on all of us to be sure that our emotional and spiritual needs were being met. He did not translate for us only at the Casa but everywhere during the two weeks depending upon our individual requests and needs.

I feel that I have been so much more fortunate being able to count on Gary Walker as a friend, spiritual counselor, guide and translator.

There are times in our lives when all of us go through big important transitions.
